Leumit Weight Management Clinics
Dietitian-led clinics for the treatment of obesity in children, adolescents and adults
Obesity is a complex medical condition that affects many systems in the body and can impact quality of life. It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis and more. Many people find that even when they are highly motivated and want to lose weight, it can be difficult to stay on track over time.
This is where Leumit Health Fund’s different levels of obesity treatment come in:
Counseling and treatment with a community dietitian
Leumit clients are welcome to meet with a dietitian through the health fund, with no limit on the number of sessions and no referral required. A referral is required only in certain medical situations, including type 1 diabetes, eating disorders or referral by a nephrologist.
Lead Dietitian Clinics
At Leumit, we have established a comprehensive service for the treatment of obesity in adults. These clinics are intended for clients dealing with complex obesity and offer a meeting with a professional obesity-care practitioner with a behavioral background, who understands that obesity involves a combination of physiological, emotional and behavioral factors.
Referral to a Lead Dietitian Clinic is made through the family physician.
The clinics provide a professional support framework that includes personalized nutritional guidance, emotional support and practical tools for managing a healthy lifestyle, in coordination with the client’s personal physician.
The process begins with a meeting with a lead dietitian, who conducts an initial assessment and builds a personalized treatment plan.
Depending on need, clients may continue with community-based follow-up care, alongside the support of the lead dietitian, or join a more intensive framework involving the lead dietitian and the personal physician. Following a comprehensive assessment, a personalized plan is adapted and may include:
- Ongoing nutritional guidance
- Tools for behavioral change and daily habit-building
- Emotional support and guidance throughout the process
After an extended period of treatment, and when there is a desire to continue the process and take it one step further, the lead dietitian may refer the client to a more intensive multidisciplinary framework at the Weight Management Clinics.
Weight Management Clinics: multidisciplinary care and support
In cases where a broader therapeutic framework is needed, the process can continue at a Weight Management Clinic.
Referral to the Weight Management Clinics is made only by a lead dietitian.
These clinics offer a multidisciplinary professional framework that includes:
- Physician: management of the overall treatment
- Dietitian: personalized nutritional guidance
- Emotional therapist: individual or group therapy
- Physiotherapist: leading personal or group exercise programs, as needed
The combination of professionals at the Weight Management Clinic allows clients to receive comprehensive support across all aspects of care: medical, nutritional, emotional and physical. This helps build a more meaningful and long-term process for managing obesity.
These clinics are intended for Leumit clients aged 20 to 70 who are interested in focused, multidisciplinary treatment, with ongoing and personalized follow-up. Clients are invited to contact their family physician and ask for more information about the unique Lead Dietitian and Weight Management Clinics framework.
ACHIM Clinic: treatment for obesity in children and adolescents
The ACHIM Clinic, which stands for Lifestyle, Children and Family, is intended for children and adolescents dealing with overweight and obesity. It offers comprehensive treatment adapted to the child and family.
Treatment at the clinic is multidisciplinary and combines a professional team from different fields, including medicine, nutrition, emotional therapy and physical activity. The goal is not only weight loss, but also improving overall health, emotional wellbeing and quality of life.
The treatment approach is based on an advanced international model, EOSS-P, and also focuses on preventing complications such as diabetes and heart disease, while strengthening daily functioning, self-confidence and social integration.
Treatment is provided in a pleasant and engaging environment, adapted to the child’s age and personal needs. It also includes guidance and support for parents, based on the understanding that family cooperation is a central part of the success of the process.
How do you join?
Admission to the clinic is by referral from a treating physician or endocrinologist, following an initial evaluation to determine suitability for the program. Once accepted, a personalized treatment plan is built, including regular meetings with the professional team.
What is important to know?
Treatment requires commitment and regular attendance at appointments, and may also include tasks to complete between sessions. Consistency and cooperation from both the child and the parents are a central part of the success of the process.
A small step, a big change
The journey of managing obesity is not short, but it is absolutely possible. At Leumit’s Weight Management Clinics, you will receive professional guidance, personal attention and practical tools that can help improve your health and reduce complications, on the way to a healthier life.
