  • People aged 18 and above who are immunosuppressant and more than 8 weeks have gone by since their last Covid vaccination, should consult with their primary care physician or with the department treating them and ask about a referral for a 3rd Pfizer Covid vaccination. You may contact your physician through the Leumit site or application. After receiving your referral, you may make an appointment.
  • All the other people eligable, and more than 5 months have gone by since their last Covid vaccination, can make an appointment for their 3rd Pfizer Covid vaccination.
  • People who have had Covid are at present not eligible for the 3rd Pfizer Covid vaccination
Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccinations
The efficacy of both Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccinations are very high in both preventing symptomatic Covid and in preventing severe Covid. Two vaccine doses are needed in order to reach a high level of protection.
  • As of 1/8/2021, people over 18 who are receiving their 1st Covid vaccination, will be vaccinated using the Moderna vaccination.
  • Teenagers aged 12-17 (including) will receive the Pfizer vaccination.
  • The second Covid vaccination dose received will be identical to the 1st one.
Why are two doses of the vaccination needed?
The vaccinations are given in 2 doses in order to increase their efficiency.
  • The Pfizer vaccination is given in two doses with 3 weeks between doses. The inoculated are considered to be fully protected 1 week after the second dose.
  • The Moderna vaccination is given with 4 weeks between doses. The inoculated are considered to be fully protected 2 weeks after the second dose.
Please ensure you have an appointment booked for your second dose.
Vaccinations for people who have had Covid
People recovering from Covid (with at least 3 months since their recovery or a positive serology test from at least 3 months ago) are invited to make an appointment for their Covid vaccination. Studies show that receiving a Covid vaccination helps reduce the chances of getting sick again and helps prevent symptomatic Covid. The Ministry of Heath does not recommend a second vaccination for people who have had Covid, but if you are traveling to a country that requires two vaccinations you may get one.
Covid vaccination for teenagers
The Covid vaccination for ages 12-16 has been approved by the FDA. Minors must arrive at the vaccinations sites with a parent or guardian, or bring a letter of approval signed by them.

What do I need to bring with me when I come to get vaccinated?

Please bring a form of ID and your Leumit card. Minors should be accompanied by parents or guardians, or bring a letter of approval signed by them.

How does the vaccination work?
The vaccine is composed of a protein that imitates the structure of the Covid19 virus, allowing the body to recognize it and fight against it. The protein is shaped in a way that it causes an efficient immune reaction, resulting in the production of antibodies inside the cell. These antibodies will protect against future illness, but as the vaccine is not a live vaccine, it cannot make you sick.
The vaccination itself cannot infect you with Coronavirus, nor infect people around you.
For this reason, the vaccination is safe for people who are in close contact with immuno-suppressed individuals, parents of young infants, caregivers etc.
Important! While the vaccine prevents severe Coronavirus symptoms, people who have been vaccinated may still be carriers of the disease. For this reason, wearing a mask, washing hands and keeping 2 m apart remain of upmost importance.
Does the vaccination have any side effects?
Topical side effects include pain at the injection site (generally without redness or swelling). Systematic side effects may include tiredness, headache, muscle aches, chills, fever, enlarged lymph nodes or other flu-like symptoms, lasting about 1 day and no more than 7 days. Side effects may appear after each or both doses. In case of side effects, you may consult with your personal physician.
